Welcome
Welcome to Learn with Two Rivers! Our goal is to share some of Two Rivers Public Charter School's strongest instructional practices with our colleagues across the country.
Two Rivers Public Charter School is a high-performing EL Education school in Washington, DC that was founded in 2004. We've grown from 150 students in prekindergarten through third grade to over 800 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade on three campuses. Our mission is to nurture a diverse group of students to become lifelong, active participants in their own education; develop a sense of self and community; and become responsible and compassionate members of society.
This site will share the best practices that are helping us graduate students with the academic, cognitive, and social skills to be successful in high school, college, and beyond. We welcome you to learn with us at Two Rivers!

How to Use This Site
At Two Rivers, every instructional choice is made in service to our school's mission. With this in mind, our desired outcomes for students span not only academic skills but also focus on deeper learning.
To understand the principles that drive our mission, we suggest you begin by reading the Outcomes for Deeper Learning section. Here you will find an overview of Two Rivers' definitions of Outcomes for Deeper Learning and separate overviews of three core components of deeper learning: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Character, and Collaboration & Communication.
Then, dig into the Instructional Practices section to learn how we achieve these outcomes with our students. Currently we highlight six instructional practices: Arts Integration, Critique, Learning Expeditions, Problem-Based Tasks in Math, Student-Led Conferences, Student-Led IEPs, and Teaching and Assessing Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving. As we continue to learn and grow our practice we will add additional content. Come learn with us!

Two Rivers 4th Street EL Education Credentialing Portfolio
Two Rivers 4th Street campus was one of the first schools in the country to be credentialed by EL Education in 2014. Every five years, we have the opportunity to renew our credential. As part of that process, we create a portfolio of our work demonstrating our high-level implementation of the EL Education Core Practices. Click here to access the portfolio.
